I’m going to be seeing a lot more of my husband.
This January, Toby will join Cat’s Cove Communications on a full-time basis! We’re so, so excited by this upcoming change and we’re jonesing to get started on this next step in our lives.
How Did this Happen?
This decision actually started brewing about two years ago. We applied for the Town of Perth’s 200th anniversary coordinator position. Toby said he’d help out on the side, and throughout that two-year period, he generated new ideas, coached me through challenges and provided amazing on-site support throughout the Town’s major events and fundraisers. We worked well together, and really enjoyed the entire process.
Flash-forward to this past summer:
When I was laid up with a herniated disc this past summer, I could barely sit, let alone drive. That meant Toby had to shorten his 60-hour work weeks in order to do daycare drop off and pick up. While he loved the work he was doing with his previous job, he realized his passion for sales and marketing as well as helping people grow their business while also having a work-life balance was something he wanted to strive for.
Meanwhile, I needed help. Cat’s Cove continued to grow at a fast pace, and I realized I was working IN Cat’s Cove Communications, but never ON it. I wasn’t devoting the time necessary to grow to the next level. While client work is a priority, it’s so important to dedicate some time to that strategy process. But, as all small-business owners know, one of the challenges is to dedicate the time to work on and grow your business and not just work IN it all the time.
To grow in a direction that I want this company to go, I knew I had to reach out.
Then, we went on a trip:
Last August, we traveled to the States to visit Toby’s mom and stepdad with the kids. We rented a cabin in the woods and soaked up the down time as a family. At night, we started talking. We had some meaningful conversations about our life goals and current values. They include: time spent with family, flexibility and opportunity with our work, and living out our passions.
And that’s when we decided he’d join Cat’s Cove full time.
By coming together at Cat’s Cove, we get to both live out our passions by helping others. We’ve been in the planning phase ever since, and (for the first time in my business) we’ve developed a strategy that lines up with our goals. It feels so good!
We will provide marketing, communications and event-planning support to small businesses and organizations. With both of our experience mixed in together, we can now offer the full package.
Here’s what I mean:
Toby’s background is in sales and marketing. He’s a natural talker, leader and problem solver and can often come up with a solution for anyone who’s tackling a challenge. He’ll use his sales and marketing experience to work with clients to help them finalize their goals and transform them into a marketing plan. Think: business launches, consultation, marketing development, fundraiser challenges.
I’ll then transform those ideas into content. I’ll provide writing, editing and content strategy to help get those plans out into the market. Think: website content, grant proposals, email sequences, blog posts and social media posts.
In other words, we’re going to help small businesses and organizations work ON their business to help them move forward with their long-term goals.
We’ll also be coordinating events this coming year including the Perth Walking Food Tour and the ReTreat Yourself Women’s Weekend. More events are in the works, too!
We’re excited to start this new chapter in our lives and take on whatever challenges 2017 may bring.
